Tried 2015, 16 and 17, even had a co-worker try it that knows more about Acronis than myself Are you sure about this? Maybe you were using a different version? And yes, OEM recovery partitions can be cloned too.Īcronis does NOT see drives in UEFI mode, I've tried it, so I'm not sure what Acronis is trying to say here. You can even exclude files from the cloning - as Acronis True Image knows the partition layout and will modify everything accordingly. The cloning is not file-based, it's filesystem-aware data-based, so only data is transferred, and the size is modified on the fly.

It will create images in the way you described, and it also includes ability to restore to dissimilar hardware - if you would ever need to. Only Acronis can do that :)įor your scenario I would recommend to look at Acronis Backup for PC. Moreover, you can choose to exclude not just Paging and Hibernation, but any File, Folder or File Type! And that's in Sector-level Disk Image. Symantec Ghost puts placeholders for these files in the image to know what size to restore, but no contents are saved. I hope that Acronis is intelligent enough not to store the contents of swap files and hibernate files? Putting the contents of those in an image file would make it huge, aside from the security risk of saving those file contents. It would be nice to be able to make a generic installation of Windows and apply the image to any computer, but applying the image to the same computer will be a start as right now we can't even do that. However, a new computer comes with UEFI secure boot enabled, so we can't image it unless we reformat the drive and reinstall from scratch.

Ghost works for us with Windows 8.1 and Server 2012R2 if we put the BIOS in legacy BIOS mode before installing Windows. However, Ghost does not work with UEFI and Symantec stopped updating it years ago after Ghost 11.5 in Solution Suite 2.5. We have been using Symantec Ghost to make backup images of computers to reapply at a later time to refresh Windows or replace the boot drive. CD Item Preview There Is No Preview Available For This Item This item does not appear to have any files that can be. It has been fine for us to boot from CD or USB flash drive and write/read the image on USB flash drive.
